Meet Marci Shepard

I am an author, professor, and former superintendent whose work lives at the intersection of continuous improvement, culture, and equity-focused leadership. I’m also passionate about leveraging new technologies to support improvement, learning, and leading.

Across roles, I’ve seen how often improvement efforts stall not because leaders lack vision, but because systems lack the structures and conditions to bring that vision to life. My work focuses on closing what I call the vision–implementation gap by helping leaders build disciplined inquiry routines, empower shared ownership, and cultivate vulnerable learning that leads to coherent, system-level impact.

From Research to Practice

My research and practice focus on helping educational leaders solve real problems of practice through equity-centered continuous improvement.

I study and work alongside leaders as they identify system-level challenges, test change ideas, learn from evidence, and adapt over time. This approach blends improvement science with the human work of leadership—trust, ownership, psychological safety, and moral courage—so that improvement shifts from compliance to commitment.
