Purpose & About Me
My purpose is transformational leadership—closing equity gaps by helping educational leaders improve systems. TransformED Leadership reflects that mission by centering continuous improvement, culture, and equity as inseparable elements of meaningful change.
Through decades of experience as a superintendent, central office leader, professor, and researcher, I’ve had the opportunity to lead, learn from, and support systems working to move from aspiration to action.
My work and research live at the intersection of continuous improvement, workplace culture, and equity-focused leadership – including leveraging AI in improvement, learning, and leading. I am especially drawn to capturing and sharing the stories, tensions, and lessons from leaders doing the work—because those experiences accelerate learning and offer hope for what is possible.
A foundational aspect of this work is what I call the vision–implementation gap—the disconnect between a leader’s commitment to equity and improvement and the lived experience of staff. Closing that gap requires more than technical solutions. It depends on empowered ownership and the safety to engage in authentic, vulnerable inquiry.
Whether working with aspiring leaders, district teams, leadership networks, or university cohorts, I use improvement science to help educators solve problems of practice with those closest to the work, strengthening systems while building positive, joyful, learning-centered cultures. This is the heart and science of leadership.
